The first edition of 'Italy in Town' organised by the Consulate of Italy in Cape Town, South Africa, in cooperation with the Comites - Committee for Italians Abroad and the Italian-South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry, took place over the weekend of 23 - 24 November in Cape Town, South Africa, with great success.
The event sold out, transforming a very hot early summer weekend in the city into a vibrant and authentic Italian street festival against the backdrop of the cobbled lanes and colourful colonial buildings of the Cape Quarter complex in the De Waterkant district. Two days of Italian gastronomy, fine wines and live entertainment.
Italian Consul Giulio Mignacca held a short toast to welcome representatives of the Italian community and industry in South Africa. Among the South African guests was Italian-born MP Natascha Mazzone, a member of the Democratic Alliance party, part of the coalition government formed after the last South African elections last May. A warm speech of appreciation for the Italian community was made by City of Cape Town councillor Ian McMahon.
Italian singer-songwriter Roberta Di Lorenzo was the star of 'Italy in Town', bringing the heart of Italian music to Cape Town with two exclusive performances.
